Worldwide, billions of people lack the key nutrition and economic opportunities to live productive, healthy lives. Nutritious foods in many countries are simply too expensive or not available at all, leaving many to be undernourished.
Communities experiencing poverty are stuck in a brutal cycle of hunger, unable to provide for themselves and their families. Children often suffer the greatest effects, dealing with lifelong challenges such as developmental delays, health issues, and disease.
We work alongside local communities to implement agriculture projects that create viable sources of income.
Many women in rural communities work as domestic workers and agricultural laborers without any avenues of growth. We provide opportunities for these women to hone their skills and learn to rely on themselves.
People are Hungry
Located in a largely agricultural region in Central Uganda, Ntunda Village struggles from inconsistent crop production and food scarcity. Without reliable economic opportunities, many villagers are forced into a life of malnutrition and extreme poverty. Living well below the international poverty line of $1.90 a day, about a third of the citizens barely survive on a diet of plantains, corn flour, and beans. However, there is hope. One of our solutions is small-scale poultry farming.
Poultry is inexpensive, easy to raise, a great source of food, and in high demand in Uganda. Poultry is also environmentally friendly, offering low resource consumption and low greenhouse gases. Plus, eggs provide a consistent revenue source that can be reinvested back into the business, thus making the project sustainable and not just a philanthropic exercise. Simply put, a poultry business can make a huge difference in the fight against poverty.
